Our Consignment Process
Large items are approved by photo – You can email pics of your items to submit@shophickorytree.com , send them via Facebook, or bring in a device for us to look at in the store. Once approved, you can bring in large items anytime. If you aren’t able to move large pieces, we offer reasonable Pickup! Just ask for more info!
Small items taken by appointment – Call us at (828) 324-1655 to schedule an appointment to bring in your small items. Then fill up your trunk, load a couple of boxes in your car, or wrap your items to bring in. We’ll go through them in the store, tell you what we can and can’t sell for you, and add them to your inventory. We recommend having a plan in mind for items we aren’t able to sell (we can refer several great local non-profits who love donations!)
Consignor Preparation:
All items must be in good, usable condition.
Upholstered Furniture Pieces: We can’t accept upholstered pieces that are not clean, in a current fabric, free of pet/smoke odor, pet hair, and in good condition. Cushions must be full and not ‘sagging’ from wear. There are some exceptions (i.e. distressed leather) where the ‘patina’ is desirable.
Some used furniture will have wear and signs of use. Often, items can be sold “as is” and we will inform buyers of any repairs needed. If the condition is such that we don’t believe we can sell the item in our store, we will let you know once we see your photos. It’s always fine to ask!
Consignment Terms
Our consignment term is 4-months. Items are priced according to age, condition, style, and manufacturer. We follow design trends, which are ever-changing, and will tell you up-front if/for how much we think we can sell your items. We welcome input from the Consignor about retail price or unique info about your items. Pieces are staged on our floor to show their best qualities and sell quickly!
MARKDOWNS: If an item doesn’t sell in the first month, the price is reduced by 15% every 30 days for the next three months until it sells. You can pick up your item if you don’t wish for it to take markdowns. If an item doesn’t sell during its 4-month term, it is the Consignor’s responsibility to pick it up before its expiration date. Items not picked up by the Consignor may be cleared or donated at the discretion of The Hickory Tree.
COMMISSIONS: The Consignor receives 50% of the selling price of each item.
PRICING AND PAYMENT: We have years of experience pricing furniture and home decor, and we feel we have an educated understanding of market value for the different items we sell. We will work together with you early in the preview process to ensure you feel comfortable with the price ranges we suggest.
Remember…we’re on the same team!
